BSF School Jammu was established in 1972 as a Primary School with 49 students and 07 teachers on its rolls. In June, 1976, the School was re-organised as a Residential Institution, upgraded to the secondary level and got affiliated with CBSE New Delhi. In July, 1976, the first batch of boarders was admitted. Since 1982, the school has been offering plus Two classes with Medical / Non-Medical streams. Later, Commerce and Arts streams were also introduced in the curriculum.

The School comprises of both Primary and Secondary Wings. The Primary section has its own spacious building equipped with all necessary facilities. The Secondary Section has a massive and magnificent building surrounded by beautiful gardens, constructed during 1977-78. The class rooms are spacious and well-ventilated. The school also has a large CCA Hall, an Auditorium, well-equipped Laboratories, Computer Labs and a rich Library.

BSF Senior Secondary School, Jammu is located in the open battlefield area of J&K. It caters to the academic requirements of the wards of BSF personnel posted in J&K and students from various battalions located on the Eastern and Western Frontiers. Admission is also granted to Civilian Wards, subject to the availability of seats.
